French President Emmanuel Macron made a statement regarding the naval operation carried out in the Mediterranean and the enforcement of sanctions.

Stressing that no violations will be tolerated, Macron said: “We will not tolerate any violation. This morning, the French Navy conducted an operation against an oil tanker arriving from Russia, subject to international sanctions and suspected of sailing under a false flag.”

Speaking about the operation, Macron stated: “The operation was carried out on the high seas in the Mediterranean with the support of several of our allies and in full compliance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.”

Noting that judicial proceedings have been initiated and the vessel’s route has been changed, Macron added: “We are committed to respecting international law and ensuring the effective implementation of sanctions. The activities of the shadow fleet contribute to financing the aggressive war against Ukraine.”
